FL044 ES Staff Welcomes Next Generation of CAP Leaders

FL044 ES Staff recently released the ES training plan for Jan-Apr 2009. What is more noteworthy, the planning staff consisted entirely of junior officers. 2dLt Richard Gaylord, 2dLt Brad Thomas, 2dLt Joachim Seitz, 2dLt Ryan Yahraus, and C/Capt Casey Jago. These talented young officers are stepping up and poised to play a leadership role in the CAP organization through the next generation. 

SRQ Celebrates 67th Birthday of CAP with Open House

On Saturday,  December 13th, the SRQ Composite Squadron held an open house to celebrate Civil Air Patrols 67th birthday and was the host for lunch for the SLS on Saturday. The open house included for display a Cessna 182, a Gippsland GA-8 Airvan, the SRQ Airport Fire and Crash Truck, which gave the cadets a thrilling demonstration, as well as many of the airport operations people, local FBO’s, and neighboring tenant pilots. Despite the cold weather and wind, the turn out was a great success.

SRQ Hosts Annual Awards Ceremomy and Holiday Party

On Thursday, December 4th, about 50 members including cadets and parents attended the annual awards ceremony and holiday party. Also in attendance was Lt Col Wes Hannah, the Southeast Region Chief of Staff, and Lt Col Fran Gleockler, the Group 5 Commander. Many members were recognized for their hard work, dedication, and participation in the squadron. Awards included Red Service Ribbons for members starting at 2 years on up to 30 years of membership. Emergency Services awards and some air crew ratings were recognized.

Cadet Assigned To New Squadron ES Duty Position

C/Tsgt  Tyler Allen has been assigned to the duty position of Cadet Emergency Services Officer. The cadet squadron has made great progress this year in completing General ES qualification. In addition, several cadets are near completion of their UDF training or Flightline Marshalling. Additional training is currently underway for Radio Operations. C/Tsgt Allen's assignment represents a new position on the cadet staff and will help to insure future success in building ES capability and capacity from the cadet members.

Squadron Leaders Train as Internet Authors

Nine department heads from the SRQ Composite Squadron completed their first level of training to become Squadron Website Authors. The training, conducted during the regular monthly staff meeting, introduced the participants to the basic skills required to create and maintain their respective areas of the SRQ Composite Squadron's website, as well as add events and news stories.
